Government's winter warmer for cold homes.

A NEW plan aims to keep Coventry warm and healthy during the cold winter ahead.

Each year the NHS spends an estimated pounds 850million on health problems caused by cold homes across the UK.

The cold weather plan includes pounds 10million to tackle fuel poverty through existing schemes, alongside a new pounds 20million fund for local authorities and charities to address cold housing.

The later will be supported by the charity Age UK.

Health secretary Andrew Lansley said: "We want everyone to get ready for winter and be prepared before temperatures drop. Being cold in your own home can be miserable and impacts on your health."
