Governement to work closely with ABU: Parvaiz Rashid.
ISLAMABAD -- The government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was committed to the freedom of media as it believes that a free media was a guarantor of democracy in the country.
These views were expressed by Senator Pervaiz Rashid,
Federal Minister for Information Broadcasting and National Heritage, when Jawwad Mottaghi, Secretary General, Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) called on him here Tuesday, said a press release.
Jawwad Mottaghi briefed the Minister regarding the working and functioning of ABU and exchanged views on further cooperation among member states of ABU to help improve professional standards as well as induction of new technology.
Jawwad Mottaaghi informed the Minister that a song competiton was being held under the auspicies of ABU in Beijing while its General Assembly would hold a meeting in October this year . He invited Pakistan to participate in them.Welcoming Jawwad Mottaghi to Pakistan, the Minister said that Pakistan being a member of ABU would like to benefit from the experience, technology and programmes of other members of ABU by way of exchange of programs and utilize its services for training of media persons and assured him that Pakistan would continue to work closely with it.
The meeting was attended by Saba Mohsin Raza, Secretary IB and NH, Shafqat Jalil, Director General, External Publicity Wing and Akhtar Waqar Azeem, former Managing Director, Pakistan Television Corporation.
