Gospel singer is a huge hit at school.

A GOSPEL singer joined forces with Golcar pupils for a special singing lesson.

Tyndale Thomas MBE spent an afternoon with members of Beech School Gospel Choir and showed off his MBE.

Children at Beech Junior, Infant and Nursery School were so amazed with his MBE, presented in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours, that they bowed and curtsied when he walked in.

School music coordinator Lynda Liles said: "The children were all so excited. They didn't understand at first, so we explained what an MBE was and when he walked in they all bowed and curtsied."

The school gospel choir has been running for eight yeas but has been self-funding for the last five years, performing many concerts.

Mrs Liles and fellow co-ordinator Jackie Wilson spend an hour a week with the 30 boys and girls aged between five and 11. Their next concert will take place at St John's Church, Golcar, on December 18.
