Goose Island gets gold.

Goose Island's Matilda recently won a gold medal at the 2005 Great American Beer Festival. bringing home gold in the Belgian and French-Style Ale category. According to Goose Island, the brand is a Belgian-style ale that is a member of brewery's Reserve line of beers. According to brewmaster Greg Hall, Matilda is fermented with a rare yeast strain, and then gets a secondary fermentation with Brettanomyces, a semi wild yeast. The result is a beer with a complex maltiness balanced with a profuse amount of hops," says Hall. "We put more work in this beer than any other beer that we've ever brewed. The judges clearly thought the extra attention was worth it."
