Goons could be Xmas No1.

AN OLD Goons' song could snatch the coveted Christmas No.1 slot from Westlife and the Spice Girls.

The nonsensical ditty, I'm Walking Backwards for Christmas - a hit back in 1956 - was remixed as a dance track for advertising agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty.

But it proved such a hit with their staff, they are now in talks with Decca and writer Spike Milligan to release it as a single.

Remixer Paul Midcalf said: "It's a mental song. You can imagine people going crazy on the dance floor."

And a senior Decca executive added: "It's been a few years since we have had a novelty Christmas No.1 - Mr Blobby was the last - but it's a British tradition."
