Google celebrates 200th anniversary of Grimm's Fairy Tales with doodle.
India, Dec. 20 -- We've all grown up hearing fairy tales of "Hansel and Gretel", "Cinderella", "The Frog Prince", "Rumpelstiltskin", "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and "Little Red Riding Hood". Today, Google helps us walk down memory lanes and recollect our favourite fairy tale characters through its unique Google Doodle on the home page that celebrates the 200th anniversary of Grimm's Fairy Tales. Some of these fairy tales were first published in 1812 in Germany by the Grimm brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm, and these tales have since then been translated into most of the major languages of the world.
The Grimm's Fairy Tales are also said to be the most influential collections of folklore in the world. The stories were published in two volumes Kinder- und Hausmarchen (1812-15); 'Children's and Household Tales'. The first English translation was titled German Popular Tales. Most of the stories were taken from oral sources. The Grimm's Fairy Tales features about 200 stories including Tom Thumb, Rapunzel and The Golden Goose.
