Goodyear Tire & Rubber

Goodyear Tire & Rubber, the largest U.S. tire company, came under new leadership when Tom Barrett, chairman for little more than two years, opted to take early retirement. Stanley C. Gault, recently retired chairman and chief executive officer of Rubbermaid, will succeed Barrett. Gault will serve a three-year term for a yet undisclosed salary. Designated spokesperson for the board of directors, Gertrude Michelson, said following a June 4 meeting that Barrett was not forced out. Rather, Barrett earlier had asked the board if they could find a suitable replacement for him if he retired early. Barrett, 60, worked for Goodyear 38 years.
