Goodfellow takes up new role as NRC director; BUSINESS MATTERS.

Byline: Howard Wright

LIFELONG racing enthusiast Dawn Goodfellow has begun her new job as director of the Northern Racing College, near Doncaster.

Her previous employer, the Duke of Devonshire, is the NRC's president, but the first he knew about her application was when she had successfully passed the interview.

However, he was quick to endorse her appointment, while expressing regret at her departure from his direct employment as general manager of the Devonshire Educational Trust, where for three years she was responsible for developing educational programmes on the duke's estates at Chatsworth and Bolton Abbey.

For 13 years previously, she was chief executive of the Countryside Foundation for Education, which seeks to educate young people about the British countryside as a living, working environment, and in which she was involved with setting up of the BHEST schools programme, and evaluating its first three years.

In December 2006, the NRC was named among Britain's top 18 training providers by the Adult Learning Inspectorate, gaining a clean sweep of outstanding inspection grades, and was last year awarded Beacon status after a further Ofsted inspection.

Goodfellow says: "Both my previous jobs have dealt with subject matter about which I feel absolutely passionate.

"However, I jumped at the chance when offered the opportunity to join such a respected, high-quality organisation as the NRC, in a job that will allow me to prepare and inspire young people to work in one of the most exciting industries in the world.

"I realise that taking the helm at such a highly successful point in the NRC's history gives me a great deal to live up to, but my first priority will be to maintain that quality and hopefully go on to develop it to new heights."
