Golfers boost Willie charity.

A golf tournament has raised more than pounds 1,000 in memory of a Boro legend.

The Rotary Club of Middlesbrough Erimus raised pounds 1,020 for the Willie Maddren Motor Neurone Fund during its annual charity event, which was supported by many local businesses. Willie Maddren died in 2000 after a five-year battle with the muscle-wasting illness.

Surgery cancelled

MIDDLESBROUGH councillor Charles Rooney has had to cancel his surgery for North Ormesby and Brambles Farm ward residents which was scheduled for Wednesday at North Ormesby Community Centre.

Church ceilidh

SEDGEFIELD St Edmund's Church will be holding a ceilidh on Saturday, 7.30pm-11pm in the parish hall. Admission is pounds 7.50 for adults, pounds 5 children, family tickets pounds 25. There will be a faith supper, please bring your own drinks.

Coffee at library

A COFFEE bar has been officially opened within Redcar library by Redcar and Cleveland Council's Mayor Mary Ovens. Aroma is run by the North East Centre for Independent Living, which supports disabled people.

Choral concert

GUISBOROUGH Choral Society is holding a concert at St Nicholas's Church, Guisborough at 7.30pm on Saturday . Tickets are pounds 9, concessions pounds 8 and U19s pounds 1, from Guisborough bookshop and Greensleeves music shop.
