Golf: Video nasty gets Sandy in good Nick.

Byline: Gerald JENSON

SANDY LYLElast night revealed how a video nasty helped bring him to his senses. After firing a 66 in the Compass Group English Open at the Forest of Arden yesterday, the former Open and Masters champion admitted: "I used Nick Faldo's video equipment in Palm Springs in January. "With his computer you can slow the swing down. and it made me start thinking about the lie of my clubs and they were generally several degrees flat,"said Lyle, who has rediscovered his form after a promising show in last week's British Masters. "It was not helping my ball contact and as soon as my mid-irons went upright, I started making nice divots." Lyle goes into the final round tomorrow on nine under par and in joint eighth place, with Darren Clarke and France's Raphael Jacquelin leading on 13-under par 203 - despite both taking bogey sixes at the 17th.

Midlander Steve Webster and Dane Soren Hansen lie a shot back, with Justin Rose, chasing his second successive victory, and Sam Walker a further stroke behind.

Ulsterman Clarke is bidding for a third event win in four years - one which would send him into this week's US Open in great spirit.

He picked up shots on the second and seventh after going into the day joint leader with Scottish rookie David Drysdale, who soon fell out of contention.

Clarke eagled the 547-yard 12th and birdied the 13th before suffering a calamitous 17th.

Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance shot a magnificent 65 to join Lyle just four off the lead.
