Going with the Flow; What's on this week MOVIE OF THE WEEK RAPPER... Terrence Howard as Djay Don't miss Terrence Howard's Oscar-nominated turn as Djay, a pimp and pusher who wants to become a rap star HUSTLE & FLOW SAT, SKY MOVIES 1, FRI,10pm.
The first is Two for the Money, a drama about sports betting with Al Pacino and Matthew McConaughey.
But the better of the pair is Hustle & Flow. It tells the story of Djay, a pimp and drug-pusher who realises he's at the same age his father was when he died.
This revelation makes him think about changing his ways - but after a life spent on the wrong side of the law what legal methods can he employ to make ends meet?
Djay isn't the sort of man who'll be happy working at the supermarket, so becomes a rapper - and uses his experiences of life on the street as inspiration for his lyrics.
It turns out he's pretty talented, and when he learns a local hip-hop star is heading back to the city for a visit, he engineers a meeting in the hope of kick-starting a career.
Although the plot may sound cliched and predictable, Hustle & Flow is actually surprisingly moving and plausible - thanks in no small part to an incredible performance from Terrence Howard as Djay. After years of appearing in supporting roles or in forgettable projects, he's now making a name for himself as a solid, dependable leading man.
He gained an Osar nomination for his role here, and has also been acclaimed in Ray, Crash and TV movie Their Eyes Were Watching God. But acting is in his blood - his grandmother Minnie Gentry was an actress and Howard claims she inspired him to go into acting
Anthony Anderson, Elise Neal, Taryn Manning, Taraji P Henson and Isaac Hayes also star.
