Wrestlers on Tyneside who stage fights in their back gardens are set to entertain audiences across the Atlantic.
Steve Farrell, 22, of Crossway Court, Gosforth, Newcastle, is travelling to Vancouver, Canada, tomorrow for the weekend "underground" wrestling event.
Steve set up the National Alliance Wrestling (NAW) federation, a forum of more than 300 wrestlers and fans from across the UK.
Steve ( whose wrestling name is Nature Boy ( holds the NAW world heavyweight tag-team belt with his wrestling partner "Tyrant" Jon Parkes, 18, of Luton.
He said: "I'm really excited about the trip. This will be the first time an underground wrestler from this country has flown overseas for a match.
"Underground wrestling is so much bigger over there and to get this chance is amazing."
Steven and John will also travel with Alex McConnell, 20, and Billy Palmer, 17.
Underground wrestling in the UK began in Gateshead in 2001 when friends started to meet up in their back gardens to wrestle and re-enact the types of spectacle seen in WWE fights on TV.
Steve said: "National Alliance Wrestling began in 2005 and it's really grown and become more organised. We each put a little bit of money into a kitty to pay for the hire of the sports hall and to buy the belts."
The two-day exhibition event is being run by Vancouver Championship Wrestling and is called VCW vs the World.
Steve said: "I was chatting to some of the guys from the VCW on the internet and they issued us with the challenge, which we were keen to accept".
Steve, a cook at St Nicholas' Hospital, Gosforth, Newcastle, runs the NAW website and organises the monthly wrestling events for members.
