Goa cops in drugs sting net.

THE GOA government on Friday suspended five police personnel, after a sting operation revealed their alleged nexus with some drug peddlers.

Chief minister Digambar Kamat announced the suspension of inspector Ashish Shirodkar, head constable Hussain Sheikh and constables Sandip Parab, Sayeesh Pokle and Sanjay Parab.

The state police was shocked after Prudent Media, a local channel, aired the confession of an Israeli drug- peddler. The alleged drug- peddler, David Griham, who was earlier arrested by Goa's anti- narcotic cell ( ANC), accused Shirodkar of stealing drugs from those in court custody and selling it back to the peddlers.

Kamat said apart from Griham's confession, a videotape posted on popular website www. youtube. com had also shown another peddler -- Atala ( full name not known) -- bragging about his friendship with Shirodkar. " We relied on the information provided by Griham and the contents of the video on the website," the chief minister said.

Kamat said all the suspended policemen were earlier attached to the ANC. " The crime branch will inquire into the nexus," the CM said.
