Global Demand for MSG and Nucleotides Continues to Grow, Says Ajinomoto.

6 October 2010 - During Ajinomoto's fiscal 2009 (which ended 31 March 2010), the company saw global demand for monosodium glutamate (MSG) amount to approximately 2.16 million tons. According to recent company estimates obtained by FLEXNEWS, Ajinomoto managed to maintain a leading share of this market with approximately 30%.

Over the past 3 years, the market has grown at an average annual rate of approximately 3-4%. It is expected to continue its expansion at the same rate, said the firm.

The company identified Vedan Group, CJ Group, and Daesang Group as its main competitors in the MSG market.

Global demand for nucleotides in fiscal 2009, meanwhile, was approximately 23,000 tons, according to the company estimates. Ajinomoto also kept a leading market share for nucleotides with about 40%.

The demand for nucleotides has grown in tandem with the expansion of the market for processed foods and the increased ratio of their use, and is expected to continue expanding more than 8% annually, went on to say Ajinomoto.

CJ Group, Daesang Group, Kirin Kyowa Foods Company, Limited, Star Lake Bioscience were named as Ajinomoto's main competition in the global nucleotide market.
