Glenda keeps mum; eastenders the one to watch: soaps.

Byline: Roz Laws

YOU have to feel sorry for the Mitchell sisters, lumbered with their dysfunctional family.

A nasty, abusive father who's just been murdered. A nasty alcoholic cousin who keeps falling off the wagon. Another cousin who got mixed up in a murder and plunged the family into chaos by jumping bail.

And to cap it all, a mother who abandoned them - though with a family like that, you can understand why Glenda wanted out.

While Roxy was always a daddy's girl, Ronnie was closer to her mum and has been, on the whole, pleased at her sudden return into their lives.

So when Glenda just disappears again, she tries to find her. Jack comes up with an address and she goes round, demanding to know why she left them all those years ago.

Glenda reveals that she was pregnant again and wanted to escape from Archie before she had her son, which Ronnie can well understand. The pair have an emotional heartto-heart in which Ronnie tells her mum all about Danielle and shows her a photograph. But when she wants to know more about the brother she never knew she had - who's confusingly called Daniel - Glenda clams up and changes the subject.

Ronnie is disturbed by how little her mother wants to reveal about her life when a man arrives with flowers. Ronnie introduces herself and is hurt to realise her mother had never mentioned her to him.

When pushed, Glenda eventually reveals that she threw out Daniel because he was so like Archie.

Ronnie is appalled to discover that her mother abandoned all three of her children and walks out. Somehow I don't think that's the last we'll see of Glenda, though - and how long will it be before Daniel shows up in the Square? Meanwhile, Roxy is rather enjoying being the new queen of the Vic, after Archie left it to her in his will. She asserts her authority by firing poor long-serving Tracey, much to Peggy's anger. The pair clash and Roxy sacks her aunt too!

There are rows galore this week (well, this is EastEnders). Pat has a big barney with Janine over Archie's murder, during which the nasty girl slaps her former stepmother across the face. Nice. Then Pat suddenly grips her left arm in agony and collapses. Is she having a heart attack? Janine is stirring up no end of trouble this week. She's blackmailing Ian and demands pounds 10,000, but when he only gives her pounds 500 and hits her, she goes through with her threat to tell the police about him throwing the laptop in the canal, and DCI Marsden arrests him.

She thinks he could have killed Archie to get his hands on the computer and its incriminating evidence of his fling with Janine - and charges Ian with murder.
