Glass company recognized by Miller Brewing Co. for excellence

Owens-Brockway's Pomona, CA, plant is the recipient of Miller Brewing Co.'s 1990 Glass Supplier of the Year award through its "Partners in Excellence" program. This award is presented by Miller's purchasing department to acknowledge achievements in quality and service by the brewer's suppliers.

The Pomona plant is to receive its award during an employee presentation on February 20. Owens-Brockway is a supplier of glass containers for Miller Brewing Co.'s bottled beverages. Miller vice president of purchasing manager Paul Mollomo and corporate purchasing manager Jerry Schiedt will present the award to Pomona plant manager Woody Lake.

"It's a privilege for Owens-Brockway to be credited by Miller Brewing Company as its glass supplier of the year," Lake said. "This is an important award for the Pomona plant and our employees are proud to be producing quality products for Miller."

The supplier recognition program was introduced by Miller in 1988 to acknowledge achievements made by suppliers and their employees. In selecting outstanding suppliers, Miller conducts extensive evaluations of more than 19,000 suppliers throughout the year based on goods and services they provide. The supplier ranking highest in these evaluations is considered a "supplier of the year" in its category. Each winning supplier is reviewed again by an executive board that selects an overall winner. year's overall "supplier of the year" is American National Can.

"Our relationship is really a partnership," Mollomo said.
