Given the recent writers' strike and the ongoing problems the entertainment industry faces from digital piracy and changing technology, it's no surprise that there are many potentially catastrophic threats on its horizon. In a recent Ernst & Young look at the greatest risks facing the media and entertainment industries, the leading threat was determined to be a possible shift in consumer demand. The internet and other technology are revolutionizing the way both media and entertainment are consumed and the corporations at the top are still unsure of how to respond. The other key risks facing these industries are business model innovation, managing new business model infrastructure, emerging markets and M&A activity, asset and intellectual property protection, corporate governance and internal controls, inability to control costs, the backlash against globalization, and the maturation of key markets.
