Give me a grandchild pleads John.

Actor John Burgess says he's always longed to land the real-life role of a grandfather.

But the star, who plays David `Bing' Crosbie in Brookside, admits his three sons tell him to button it whenever he mentions the subject.

"I'd love a grandchild," says John, 63, "but my sons Harvey, Paul and Andrew, tell me to shut up about it."

"A granddaughter would be wonderful because the family is so male dominated. But none of the boys is married - much to my chagrin."

John wed fourth wife Dorothy last Christmas - to the amazement of his sons, who are from his first marriage.

"I didn't think I'd ever marry again," says the star. "But the boys all love Dottie and she loves them."
