AS A frequent visitor to Rainbow Cantonese in Kings Heath, I was somewhat dismayed to read the review by Paul Fulford (Mail, October 7).Whilst Rainbow will never offer haute cuisine or be the home of a Michelin-starred chef, the restaurant does have some positive qualities.
I agree with the comments made about the service being efficient and friendly. In my experience, this is always the case.
It is unfortunate that Mr Fulford was disappointed by the yuk sung - something of a staple when visiting, a dish that many enjoy. He could have also sampled the yill juen chicken, not a bad dish. Sates are always sizzling and the special rice is exactly what it says on the tin. The menu is varied, appealing to different people.
Rainbow has been established a long time and all being well will remain that way. There is no dearth of restaurants across the city offering Cantonese cuisine. The merit of Rainbow is that is it friendly, familiar and provides food made with warmth.
Why else would one visit with such frequency? Give it another shot, Paul.
P Farmah, Kings Heath
