In 1937, Bim and Betty Johnson, owners of the Heilig Theatre, sponsored an all-Eugene girls softball team that won the Valley championship, thus qualifying them to play the perennial state champions from Portland, Lind-Pomroy. The Eugene team lost the state championship game, 1-0, at the Willamette University field.
