Gift Patrol might make you Boogie.

Byline: BUZZWORTHY by The Register-Guard

The holidays sure keep things buzzing at a rapid clip.

Portland-based jazz bassist David Friesen will round up some friends for a night of holiday jazz at Luna on Sunday.

The Holiday Market will grow from a weekend-only thing next week to offer some weekday hours on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Dec. 24 (aka Christmas Eve).

And if you've been to the Oakway Center lately, sheesh, good luck finding a parking spot. You may find yourself parking blocks away next time you want to hit Trader Joe's for that bottle of Three Buck Chuck you need to go in your hot spiced wine.

And we guess that there will be many South Eugene grads from the early '90s in a festive mood this weekend. It's a homecoming concert of sorts at the WOW Hall when the fun-loving disco maniacs of Boogie Patrol Express reunite for one night only.

A little more than a decade ago, they were irrepressible teenagers. Now they're irrepressible adults. Boogie Patrol sax player Sean Flannery promises it will be a silly night. And don't we all need a bit of silliness these days?

But perhaps the biggest buzz these says - no, not the "stolen" election, not the DVD release of "Return of the King" - centers around an event not scheduled until January. In case the buzz has passed you by, Modest Mouse will play two shows at the McDonald Theatre on Jan. 28 and 29.

The band was just nominated for two Grammys. The single, "Float On," has been all over the radio. The album `Good News for People Who Love Bad News' has gone platinum.

And after selling out four nights at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Modest Mouse added a fifth show tonight.

If you want to see what the fuss is about, tickets to the Eugene shows are on sale - for now - through TicketsWest.

And that's worth buzzing about.
