Getting thin would be a Calum-ity..

Backup (Wed, BBC1, 9.30pm)

Calum MacPherson's biggest breaks have come from ... being big. The 6ft 3ins, 17st star of Backup, which returns for a six-part series, says: "It gives me an edge. In 1989, I lost lots of weight after a play - I didn't work for nine months."

Calum is a hit as PC Roger Tennant, nicknamed Flub (Fat Lazy Useless B*****d). He's not bothered by the tag. "Viewers adore Flub," he says. "They know he has a heart of gold."
