Getting in on another level; GOING TO GROUND: Thirties' style bungalows are proving a big hit with home buyers.

BUNGALOWS are proving a big attraction for home buyers in Lanarkshire.

Caledonia Homes, who have built their reputation by combining the best of 1930s style architecture with all the comfort and convenience of contemporary design, sold out within weeks when they launched their bungalow development at Byretown Gardens in Kirkfieldbank, near Lanark.

Now the company have just started work on a new site along the road in the village of Cleghorn and, already, nearly a quarter of the bungalows have been snapped up from plan.

Less than three miles from Lanark, and within easy commuting distance of Glasgow and Edinburgh, Caledonia are building a total of 15 three and four- bedroom detached bungalows at Hillview from just [pound]80,000.

All the houses have steep hipped roofs, bay windows, chimneys, coved ceiling cornices, and wide hallways - all classic features of the '30s style - while modern details include double glazing, central heating, high levels of insulation, and that ultimate mod con - the en suite bathroom.

Caledonia are also launching a totally new house style at Cleghorn and, like Barratt's Grantley Plus bungalow, the three- bedroom Lowther includes some lofty design details, with an upstairs bedroom and bathroom.

The sales office at Hillview is open Thursday to Monday, from 11.30am to 5.30pm. Telephone Caledonia on 01555-666619 for further information.

FOR those seeking a rural retreat closer to the city, Wimpey Homes have just the thing.

They have just released the second phase of properties at their Brookfields development in Robroyston.

Located near Bishopbriggs, on the outskirts of Glasgow, this village- style site offers a mix of three-bedroom semi and detached homes from Wimpey's Optima collection from [pound]78,995.

Two new showhomes will be ready for viewing next month. Meanwhile the sales office is open daily, from 11am to 5pm. Telephone 0141-772 6471.

IT turned out to be the sale of the century when Park Lane Developments, in association with Palisade Properties, released details of their new flatted site in the west end of Glasgow.

All the flats in The Atrium in Byres Road were snapped up in 35 minutes.

An oasis of tranquillity in the heart of the city was how Joanne Casey, sales and marketing director for Park Lane, described the Oriental-style garden planned for The Atrium - which will be decorated with decking, cedar wood seating and sculptures.

A total of 18 apartments are being built next to Hillhead Library, all with patio windows, terraces or balconies overlooking the landscaped gardens, and now that the Sold Out signs are up, Park Lane are planning their next developments. For more details, telephone 01698-845566.

THE peace and quiet of the country, combined with easy commuting to the city is also proving a big attraction at Forthwood's latest site in Strathaven, Lanarkshire.

It's just five years since husband and wife team, Jon and June Doran, launched their first range of new home designs at a small development in Yoker, near Glasgow.

Since then, they have quickly built a reputation for providing quality houses at affordable prices, concentrating on smaller sites in good locations.

Close to road links to Edinburgh and Glasgow, only 13 houses are planned for the Southfield site in Strathaven where a mix of three and four-bedroom semi and detached villas are on offer from [pound]78,500. All homes come with a 10-year NHBC Buildmark warranty. For details telephone 0141-644 3500.

WILSON Home Builders are now homing in on the east of Scotland.

This Friday, the Lanarkshire-based company is launching its first development on Tayside, with the opening of a sales centre at Ballumbie Castle Estate, in Angus.

Set in the grounds of the former Ballumbie Castle, and surrounded by mature woodlands, open countryside and a new golf course, Wilson are building a range of three and four- bedroom detached villas and bungalows at their new development. Prices are still to be released.

Less than four miles from Dundee, Broughty Ferry and Monifieth, there are 30 homes available in the first phase, with the first two showhomes planned for November.

From Friday, September 3, the new Ballumbie Caste Estate sales centre is open daily, from 1pm to 5pm weekdays, and between 11am and 5pm Saturday and Sunday. Telephone 01382-731020.
