Get to grips with all-wheel drive; Isuzu/Subaru.

Byline: Steve Hughes

SUBARU'S full range of Legacy, Outback, Forester and Impreza models boast the reassurance of 4WD grip.

They boast Subaru's permanent Symmetrical All-Wheel drive system that directs power to all four wheels, optimising traction in the most extreme of slippery conditions.

Many Subarus also feature Vehicle Dynamic Control, which manages torque distribution, engine output and brakes at each wheel, making adjustments instantaneously when grip levels are reduced in order to keep the vehicle on the chosen course. Among those vehicles to be so endowed is the latest Legacy Tourer, the fifth version of Subaru's estate and the biggest ever, sporting a cabin longer, wider and taller than any of its predecessors.

There aren't many safer estates on the road either as the Legacy Tourer has reinforcements throughout the bodyshell to enhance collision safety and resistance to impacts.

There is also an enlarged front-end crush zone to protect occupants as well as six airbags and stability control fitted as standard.

This and other measures implemented to protect pedestrians helped the Legacy Tourer achieve a maximum five stars in Euro NCAP crash tests.
