SKIPPING is something we all like to do as kids - but you don't have to stop when you leave primary school. It is a great way for the family to keep fit and healthy and have fun and, on National Skipping Day on March 13, they are encouraging you to do just that!
So grab your rope and check out these super skipping games: Basic or easy jump | : The jumper keeps both feet slightly apart and jumps at the same time over the rope.
ALTERNATE FOOT JUMP |(SPEED STEP): The jumper uses alternate feet to jump off the ground. It can be used to double the number of skips per minute - if you are counting!
criss-cross.: | This is similar to the basic jump with the only difference being that, while jumping, the left hand goes to the right side of the body and vice versa for the right hand, with arms crossing in front of the body.
side swing | : This is where the rope passes the side of the skipper's body, without he or she jumping it, and the skipper usually performs a basic jump after aside swing, or a cirss-cross.
douBle under | : The skipper jumps higher than normal and swings the rope twice under his or her feet...note - it is possible to swing it three times as you get better and more efficient.
douBle dutch | : This is where two people turn two long ropes in opposite directions, which are then jumped by one or more players.
HEALTH BENEFITS SKIPPING | can be used for a cardiovascular workout, similar to jogging or cycling. It can achieve a burn rate of up to 700 calories per hour of vigorous activity.
JUST | 10 minutes of skipping is roughly the equivalent of running an eight-minute mile.
SKIPPING | is considered a sport. DURING | speed events the world record for 30 second speed is 104 right foot only jumps.
TIMOTHY HO CHU-TING | f rom Hong Kong skipped 522 right foot only jumps in three-minutes in the male World Masters competion in August 2014.
In 2012 Paul | Morning, from the USA, set the world record for most jumps in 10 seconds with 72 jumps.
