Get on board if you want a healthier life.

A teesside mayor is among those getting active to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Stockton's Ann Cains is promoting a five-year programme launched by the borough council's physical activity strategy.

Stockton Council's healthy lifestyle team will work alongside health professions.

The team is also launching a six-week education and exercise programme for people newly diagnosed with diabetes. The scheme will promote health with the aim of preventing the often life-threatening complications linked to the condition.

Care, appropriate resources, education, and physical activity will be among the issues discussed. Support will also be given by a health care professional.

Andrea Hogg, the council's healthy lifestyle co-ordinator, said: "This long-term strategy will help residents. We are particularly keen to place emphasis on people who are at risk of coronary heart disease to help them to ensure they have all the knowledge possible for a healthier life."
