Germany : White & Case Strengthens German Financial Restructuring & Insolvency Practice with New Partner in Hamburg.
"Hiring an excellent lawyer like Riaz is an important milestone in the continued development of the strong insolvency administration practice White & Case has built in Germany, where our advice to financial institutions on client restructurings is held in particularly high regard," said White & Case partner Thomas Lauria, Global Financial Restructuring & Insolvency Practice Leader. "Riaz has a substantial track record and strong market profile and will play a pivotal role as we also continue to build our restructuring capabilities in Germany, where insolvency, corporate and financing work has increased dramatically in recent years."
Janjuah, who has joined the Firm's Global Financial Restructuring & Insolvency Practice, focuses on cross-border financial restructuring and general insolvency law-related advice. In the German market his broad experience includes high profile restructurings that have reached successful conclusions through the use of plans of reorganization, centre of main interest (COMI) migrations and UK Schemes of Arrangement. Janjuah joins White & Case from Freshfields and brings with him nearly 15 years of experience.
"Riaz has worked on landmark deals which have contributed to the shaping of the German restructuring environment," said White & Case partner Markus Hauptmann, Regional Section Head, Germany. "The market is experiencing significant change following the introduction of German insolvency law reform in 2012 and, over the past three years, we ve also seen the rise of high yield bonds as a source of external financing. Looking ahead, the restructuring of bonds will add to the complexity of financial restructuring situations and require a thorough knowledge in finance, corporate and capital markets. Riaz brings this knowledge and understanding and our clients will certainly benefit from his advice."
In the German market White & Case regularly acts as administrators on major insolvency cases as well as advising clients on significant restructurings. Recently, the Firm was appointed by the Local Court of Hamburg as insolvency administrator of the assets of Conergy AG, a leading worldwide provider of photovoltaic solutions and services with more than 30 subsidiaries, and over the past 12 months has also advised a number of shipping insolvencies and worked with ship owners and shipping companies on pre-insolvencies.
