Germany : CHUNK of BBC worldwides music publishing catalogue acquired by BMG.
The rights to a portion of BBC Worldwides music publishing catalogue, including the theme tunes of banner shows including Luther, Mrs Browns Boys and Frozen Planet are acquired by BMG.
Incidental music from Doctor Who and Wolf Hall is in addition comprised in the deal, which is believed to cover approximately 1,000 copyrights.
Works by various big name composers together with Ty Unwin, Murray Gold, George Fenton, Paul Englishby and Debbie Wiseman is comprised in the catalogue.
BMG UK EVP Creative and Marketing, Alexi Cory-Smith said: Its a real honour to be entrusted with these great BBC works from world class composers that have made numerous important contributions to British culture throughout their careers.
Shows like Luther, Doctor Who, Mrs Browns Boys and many others in this catalogue are household names and the composers behind them have unrivalled track records. As with all our clients at BMG, were committed to providing them with similarly unrivalled service and transparency.
In BAFTAs Best Original Television Music category, Murray Gold is nominated twice for Doctor Who in 2009 and 2014. The BMG acquisition itself comprises incidental music from the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary, series six, seven and eight, and the series seven Christmas special.
Similarly, Paul Englishbys work on Luther has received a BAFTA nomination. Music from the hit crime dramas first, second, third and fourth series, along with the shows theme tune are among Englishbys works in the BMG acquired catalogue in addition to works from Musketeers series two and Inside Me.
In the meantime, Debbie Wisemans work on Wolf Hall, which is in addition part of the BMG deal, saw her secure the 2016 Royal Television Society West Award for Best Composer, Drama.
