BEIRUT: The government commissioner to the Military Tribunal Peter Germanos will hand his resignation to Justice Minister Marie-Claude Najm Tuesday for family reasons, a judicial source told The Daily Star.

Germanos denied rumors that he was resigning because of his repeated lack of invitation to sessions of the Higher Defense Council, saying he was requesting "the termination of his services in the judiciary for purely family reasons."

Germanos has been involved in many high-profile cases, including the trial of Suzanne Hajj Hobeiche on charges of fabricating a case against Lebanese actor Ziad Itani for spying for Israel.

He has been praised for refusing to file charges against Army soldiers for "homosexual activity" based on the controversial Article 534 of the Lebanese Penal Code.
