German relief organizations services during floods lauded.

By ISLAMABAD, March 19, 2011 (Balochistan Times): Pakistans Ambassador to Germany Shahid Kamal has said that the government and the people of Pakistan are grateful for the relief work carried out by German relief teams and humanitarian organizations during the devastating floods. People in Pakistan were touched when German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel launched the fund raising campaign on one of the leading German T.V. Channel, Kamal said while speaking at a ceremony, said a press release reaching here Friday from Berlin. He said that the people of Pakistan would remember the help and support of the German people at the time of need. Pakistan Embassy in Berlin organized the event to express thanks and show appreciation for the contribution and services rendered by German humanitarian and Relief organizations during the unprecedented flood in Pakistan last year. Representatives of 17 leading organizations were awarded shields in recognition for their assistance and cooperation extended to the flood affected people in Pakistan. Ambassador Kamal appreciated the role played by the German media in highlighting the devastation and the human suffering caused by the floods. He said that the generous donation amounting to over US$ 220 million given by the public in Germany was remarkable and reflected solidarity of the German public for the flood victims. Ambassador Kamal briefed the representatives of the relief agencies on the successful relief work done in the flood affected areas. He said that rehabilitation and re-construction work has already started in these areas. He said assistance of German humanitarian and relief organizations in repairing homes, roads, bridges, schools and health centres would go a long way to further strengthen people-to-people relations between the two countries.
