Gerber's Revolutionary ODYSSEY(TM) Plotter with GerberDrive(TM) Redefines Cutting Plotter Technology.

Breakthrough Concept Continues Corporate Emphasis on Process Innovation

SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn., June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Gerber Scientific Products, a subsidiary of Gerber Scientific Inc. (NYSE: GRB), today unveiled its revolutionary new GERBER ODYSSEY plotter to the North American sign industry at Sign Business, Greater Columbus Convention Center, Columbus, Ohio.

The first of its kind in the world, the ODYSSEY combines the ultra-precise alignment and tracking of sprocket-feed plotters with media-width flexibility_ at a cutting rate of up to 36 inches per second (ips) -- making it the world's most versatile, high-speed cutting plotter. Its breakthrough design enables graphics professionals to cut a wide variety of material widths -- up to 52 inches -- very quickly without concern for material drifting.

Noting the ODYSSEY exemplifies Gerber's proven ability to respond to critical customer needs via a "change the rules" mindset, Charles Hevenor, president, Gerber Scientific Products, stated, "Our customers requested a Gerber-built product capable of accommodating unpunched sign material. So, in typical Gerber fashion, we created GerberDrive, a unique material transport system for the ODYSSEY that is neither sprocket-feed nor friction-feed, yet incredibly versatile and accurate... making it a very significant advancement for the entire sign making and specialty graphics industry."

GerberDrive provides Automatic Material Alignment(TM) at the touch of a button, Hevenor explained, making material loading fast and easy. GerberDrive's Active Tracking Control(TM) then works throughout the job, sensing even the most minute deviation in material movement from the intended track and activating a unique tracking mechanism to keep the material in line. This ensures correct tracking and plotting from beginning to end.

"The ODYSSEY represents a quantum step for the cutting plotter industry in terms of performance and productivity," remarked Hevenor, "and as such, redefines the standards against which all other plotters will be measured."

He continued, "Our customers have always valued Gerber's sprocket-feed plotters for their reliability, fast setup, speed, and true tracking capabilities, just as they've appreciated the flexibility of our friction feed plotters. With the ODYSSEY, they now have better than the best of both worlds in one machine.

"The ODYSSEY stands on its own as a superior system for nearly any vinyl cutting operation. Its many benefits are tailored to meet the needs, and surpass the expectations of, every Gerber customer. It's a revolutionary product in every aspect," concluded Hevenor.
