George Eliot NHS Trust Is Live with CoPathPlus From Misys for Anatomic Pathology.

BURGESS HILL, United Kingdom -- Misys Healthcare Systems, a market leader in healthcare information technology, today announced that George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust in Warwickshire is in "live" production with the CoPathPlus(TM) from Misys anatomic pathology module.

George Eliot Hospital, a Misys Laboratory(TM) system user since 1995, is an acute district general hospital serving the population of Nuneaton, Bedworth, rural North Warwickshire, Coventry and parts of Leicestershire. Its pathology department provides a comprehensive general clinical laboratory for the hospital and healthcare providers both in its catchment area and beyond, handling at total of 1.5 million test requests a year.

CoPathPlus from Misys

Designed to meet the unique workflow requirements of the anatomic pathology department, CoPathPlus from Misys provides comprehensive patient and specimen information viewable in a wide variety of data and graphical formats. The system incorporates images and diagrams, and comprises an integrated report writer, a library of more than 200 report options such as cytology screening statistical requirements, Quality Assurance and fast report turnaround functions. Other features include histology protocols, SNOMED coding and HL7 compliance which offers the scalability to integrate with Misys CPRTM as well as any other computer- based patient record system.

Statistics, tracking & ease of use

Having reviewed the options, George Eliot selected CoPathPlus from Misys and is delighted with the choice. Says Paul Rushton, Laboratory Computer System Manager at George Eliot: "The solution's Windows-based interface makes it much easier to use. It took us less than four hours to train the clinical users." CoPathPlus from Misys supports the KC61 cytology statistics needed for the Department of Health and enables the Trust to pull out any other kind of statistics required. It records everything including Failsafe/Recall tracking for patients, test results or any other data the department may wish to flag, making it both highly secure and providing a powerful monitoring tool enabling a complete audit of the system.

A-Z support

The implementation of CoPathPlus began last autumn and was completed on schedule. Misys Healthcare Systems provided pro-active support from the beginning of the project in everything from planning, project management and implementation to training, system building, testing and trouble-shooting. As part of the standard package, Misys also provided the Trust consultancy services aimed at helping to save time and money by reviewing operational efficiencies and setting up systems to optimise workflow. Explains Rushton: "Another reason we chose Misys was its track record for superior support. After almost a decade of working together, Misys has encouraged us to set high expectations and expect only the best. Put simply - they perform."

Upgrades as standard

As part of the CoPathPlus implementation, Misys is also building four separate interfaces: to the patient demographic data repository (ADT), in-house results reporting system, interfaces to GP data feeds and cytology failsafe recalls to PCTs, as well as data migration from the legacy anatomic pathology system. Rushton continues: "Misys is excellent at this kind of technical work and it's a pleasure to work with them. Moreover, they are committed to insuring their products meet all UK requirements and provide regular product and regulatory (e.g. KC61) upgrades as a routine part of their maintenance contract, at no additional charge."

Says Duane Lawrence, general manager of Misys Healthcare Systems in West Sussex, U.K.: "More and more laboratory facilities in the U.K. are upgrading to CoPathPlus from Misys, a state-of-the-art pathology information solution that is gathering a critical mass of adoption across the country. We are extremely pleased that George Eliot - a prestigious Trust that is frequently at the leading edge of technology and is currently seeking foundation status - continues to show such strong confidence in both our clinical products and our support services."
