Generation games at gymkhana; Family fortunes for Holmes.

POLE Moor Riding Club last Saturday held its Gymkhana and Handy Horse Championships at Greystones Farm, near Pole Moor, for all their keen members.

Firstly the competitors entered the many gymkhana heats and there was great amusement as riders had to duck their heads in buckets of water in the Apple Bobbing race and get covered in flour in the Flour Race 'whiteout'!

Members of all ages took part on their happy horses and it was agreed that it was a really 'feel-good' fun day out.

The gymkhana cls asses were - the bending race, walk trot and run, the potato race, the egg-and-spoon race, bun race, cup race, apple bobbing, the sweetie race, flag race and the post-box race.

After entering all these, the points were then totted up to reveal the overall winners.

Keen riders mother and daughter from the Holmes family had a winning day.

Under 30s overall champion was Charlie Holmes riding Eva with 29 points with the close runner-up Daisy Green riding Nutmeg with 23 points.

Over 30s overall champion was Charlie's mum Sharon Holmes riding Mr Murdoch with 36 points with Annette Modena riding Barclay a close runner-up with 30 points.

And Charlie's grandma Maz Bradley made it a real generation game of family fortunes by finishing third in the Handy Horse section.

The riders then had a bash at the Handy Pony and Handy Horse where they had to ride through unusual obstacles against the clock.

As the pictures clearly reveal the horses and riders all did extremely well. RESULTS: Lead-rein handy pony results: Jack Morris, 2 Holly Whitely, 3 Florence Whitely.
