ADOCTOR who ran an unregistered transgender clinic has appeared at a medical tribunal accused of failing to provide good clinical care to three child patients.
Dr Helen Webberley, 52, who founded online clinic GENDERGP with her husband Dr Michael Webberley, is also accused of prescribing inappropriately to two other patients.
Dr Webberley, from Abergavenny, was interim suspended by a Medical Practitioners Tribunal panel after it was discovered she was running an unlicensed practice. She was fined PS12,000 in December 2018 after she was found guilty of illegally providing healthcare services from her home under the firm Online GP Services Ltd.
As part of an online nationwide service called GENDERGP, Dr Webberley had been prescribing hormones and 'puberty blockers' to children as young as 12 - many of whom had been previously denied treatment via the NHS.
Speaking before the hearing, Dr Webberley said: "I believe in what I'm doing and I've saved young people's lives."
