GelPro[R] Recognized as First Floor Mat Company to Receive National Floor Safety Institute Certification.

AUSTIN, Texas -- GelPro([R]), the world's original brand of gel-filled comfort floor mats, today received a certification from the National Floor Safety Institute (NFSI) as the first floor mat company to ever earn this slip resistance distinction.

"As a company dedicated to delivering on our high quality and safety promise, we are honored to be the first to receive the special NFSI certification," said Robb McMahan, Founder and CEO of GelPro. "GelPro mats have always provided our customers with comfort they can depend on, but now when they introduce GelPro mats into their homes, they are assured that these mats have met the highest safety requirements for the flooring category."

According to the NFSI, every eight seconds someone is a victim of a slip-and-fall, increasing the importance of reliable flooring and instituting prevention measures. The NFSI product certification allows product manufacturers to independently evaluate their products for wet slip resistance. GelPro obtained the certification for its premium collection of mats that feature a 100% gel core as well as its GelPro Basics line that utilizes both gel and foam. The end result of this testing provides the consumer with relevant information to make a more informed buying decision.

"GelPro is the first of all ergonomic and anti-fatigue mat companies to have its backings certified by the National Floor Safety Institute as 'High-Traction,'" said Russell Kendzior, President of NFSI. "Household slips and falls are a growing problem, especially for the elderly. Each year more than 8 million people will seek emergency room treatment for an accidental fall, most of which take place in the home. Many household related falls are attributed to unsafe or slippery floor mats. Mats whose backings are NFSI Certified as High-Traction provide the highest level of slip resistance currently available in the market and will, as a result, reduce mat related falls."

The NFSI was founded in 1997 as a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to aid in the prevention of slips, trips and falls through education, research and standards development. Many years of research and trial of various test methods has resulted in the certification process set to evaluate flooring products for their degree of slip resistance. For a product to achieve NFSI certification status, it must pass both the laboratory phase of evaluation as well as a field test.
