Gay? Trans? Whatever.
A book once honored by the Lambda Literary Foundation has now been labeled by the organization as "transphobic" and stripped of an award nomination. The foundation voted in March to remove The Man Who Would Be Queen: The Science of Gender-bending and Transsexualism from its list of finalists for the prestigious Lambda Literary Award following a petition drive by transgender activists.Written by J. Michael Bailey, chair of Northwestern University's psychology department, the book--which includes assertions that transsexuals are really just homosexuals with gender identity issues--has been called unscientific. "It's a wolf in sheep's clothing," said transsexual author and activist Jamison Green. "It seems gay-friendly on first glance. But you have to read the whole book to grasp how insidious and vicious it is."
