Garner is caught out in clunker; CATCH AND RELEASE ** 12A.

WHEN her fiance dies unexpectedly, Gray Wheeler (Jennifer Garner) ends up swapping her wedding day for a funeral.

But after she moves in with his best friends, she discovers that hubby-to-be had a few skeletons in the closet, including an illegitimate child with a slutty massage therapist from LA.

Garner, whose quirky charms worked well in 13 Going On 30, is all at sea in this predictable, tear-stained rom-com.

She's not helped by a clunky script that forces certain characters into unlikely personality turnarounds.

At least Clerks director Kevin Smith, seen here in a rare acting role, adds some much-needed laughs.
