Gardening: MUST DOs.

Byline: PIPPA GREENWOOD

Check that the downpipe feeding your water butt is not blocked. Clear it if necessary - fix a piece of stocking over the end and this should help to filter out debris.

Try to keep off the lawn and any other grassed areas if the surface is frosted or covered with snow - untold damage can be done at this time of year.

Check that insulation around pipes and exterior taps is adequate and firmly held in place.

Water bowls of forced bulbs regularly as they now have more leaves and so require a lot more water.

After using hand tools on damp or misty days, bring them inside to dry off thoroughly and then wipe the blades with some light oil or WD40.
