Garden's Garry digs deep for victory; SPORT.
Garden City were playing top team Boro Jovial Monk captain Garry coming up against England international, and one of the best young players in the North-east, Dan Harris.
Dan was fresh from a PS5,000 challenge match win in Leeds a few days early, so Garry was shaking before he went on to play the game but has soon as it started, Garry played brilliant to outwit the young star and go on to win the game and collect the best win of his pooling career.
The game was then nip and tuck.
Tom Llewellyn played well to make it 2-0 to Garden City.
Sean Flint, Dan Lucas, Ben Gardiner Peter Fields and Gary Fields all won for Boro Jovial to lead the match 5-2. Dave Butler Jnr played well in the last frame for Garden City to win his game for a final score of 5-3. There was two massive shocks in the premier. Saltersgill B, who have regrouped and signed lots of new players, were up against Saltersgill C who were the top team last season.
Salty C didn't let Salty B worry them with all their superstar signings, and Salty C captain Mark Richardson had his team up for the challenge. They played brilliantly to run out comfortable 6-2 winners.
Premier league champions Erimus A also lost to a very strong Western BL team 6-2 away from home.
Priory Social Club now go top of the league after they defeated Longlands A 6-2 with Ricky "Pretty Boy" Smith getting the man of the match award for Priory.
Erimus A defeated Coronation 5-3 with wins from Doug Reed, Alan Dury, and Gary Jinks who won the all-important frame to collect the man of the match award.
Coronation winners were Ste Allan, Andy Horsefield and C. Campbell.
Monk 86 had a brilliant 7-1 win away to Grenadier then had a hard-fought 4-4 draw with the Red Lion.
Lion also drew 4-4 with newly-promoted Albion. Saltersgill B got back to winning by defeating North Ormesby Tute 6-2. Peter Shaw hit an eightball clearance for Salty.
St Mary's held giant killers Saltersgill C to a 4-4 draw. St Mary's then drew 4-4 with Acklam Garden City.
Priory Social Club had a tough match away to Western BL with the Priory running out close 5-3 winners with Ricky "Pretty Boy" Smith getting his second successful man of the match award for the Priory.
Albion had a 5-3 win over Coronation.
North Ormesby Tute got a win defeating Grenadier 5-3. Boro Longlands go joint top with Priory after they defeated the Whale Hill Social 5-3 after Whale Hill led the match 3-0. Placings: Priory Social Club 5-13, Boro Monk 5-13, Saltersgill B 5-12, Saltersgill C 5-10, Albion 5-10, Erimus A 5-10.
It's a very close call in the first division with Geoff Sankey's Erimus B leading the way defeating Camel's Hump 6-2 and Longlands Nomads 5-3. New to the league Buccanneer B are just one point behind the leaders after they defeated the Buccanneer B 5-3 and St Mary's B 5-3. St Mary's B bounced back with a 5-3 win at home to Apple Tree.
Eston Labour club defeated Linthorpe 6-2 and then defeated the Junction 5-3 to record two very good wins.
Apple Tree defeated Longlands Warriors 5-3 then the Warriors drew 4-4 with Spring-field. Springfield lost to Newcastle House 5-3. Newcastle also defeated Western Wonders 5-3. Monk A defeated Longlands Nomads 5-3 but Monk A also lost to Linthorpe 5-3. Buccanneer B defeated Camel's Hump 5-3, Middlebeck drew 4-4 with Western Wonders Middlebeck then went on to defeated Junction 6-2. Placings: Erimus B 5-13, Buck B 5-12, St Mary's B 5-12, Newcastle House 5-11, Middlebeck 5-11.
