Gangnam spoof Style is a Corker; FAKE CANNES STAR HAD CLEANING JOB IN IRELAND.

A GANGNAM Style Psy impersonator who fooled the stars at the Cannes Film Festival once worked as a department store cleaner in Cork.

Denis Carre, 34, who lived in Ireland for 12 years, had the A-listers under his spell when he took on the persona of the K-pop sensation.

He gained access to star-studded parties, photobombed celebrities and even appeared on French radio before being outed by the real Psy thanks to a photograph on Instagram.

Those who fell victim to the con included Skyfall actress Naomie Harris, who tweeted an image of herself posing with him at a party, though she later acknowledged that the man she had identified as Psy was, in fact, an impostor.

Denis - who was born in South Korea but adopted in France when he was three-years-old, came to Ireland in 2000 to study music.

But despite 15 years of studying English, he struggled with the Irish accent.

So he took a job as a cleaner in Roches Stores in Cork to help him understand what was going on.

He said: "I was cracking up and I had to do something. I had to swallow my pride and got a job as a cleaner.

"Within a month I got used to the different accents."

But it's not just his grasp of English that he has to thank Ireland for.

In an interview with La Montagne, he explained it all started when he got mobbed by Psy fans at a club in Dublin last September.

Denis said: "A crowd of people gathered around me, and the situation got totally out of control.

"Then it happened again and again, to the point that the resemblance (with Psy) was causing problems in my private life."

At his family's suggestion, Denis decided to take advantage of the striking resemblance and began making appearances at venues across Europe, often getting paid to pose as the South Korean pop star.

But he assured the publication that he means no harm by his masquerade.

He said: "I know that my success is due to that of someone else. All of this amuses me."

Denis' Cannes stunt made headlines all over the world.

He told GQ how he left his job in Little Island, Cork, when the Gangnam Style dance took off.

Denis said: "I used to live in Ireland for over 12 years.

"But since all of this happened towards the end of last year my career changed and I embodied completely the Psy role."

Now Denis has a manager and communications consultants to plot his career as an impersonator of the Korean sensation.

The impersonator said his dream now is to meet the real Psy, who thankfully doesn't seem too fazed by the identity theft.

He tweeted: "Seems like there's another ME at cannes... say Hi to him (sic)."
