Game off for a year.

Game off for a year: The soccer match between the Iranian and American national teams, originally planned for this fall, has been postponed a year, the Mehr news agency reports. Iran is now out of the World Cup competition but the United States is still vying for a place in the finals and so has that primarily in its sights. But Mehr quoted Ali Kafashian, head of the Iranian Football Federation, as putting political concerns first for Iran. "Considering the sensitivity of this game, both the parties had to wait for suitable conditions, which have not been favorable in recent months," Kafashian said. "In line with this, through a direct telephone conversation with the American party, it was decided to arrange for this game after the World Cup is played in South Africa [next summer]."
