Game of two halves but Heed see off Cats.

IAN BOGIE says Gateshead produced a "Jekyll and Hyde performance" in their final pre-season outing - but was delighted to sign off with victory. The Tynesiders beat Sunderland's reserves 4-3 at the International Stadium in their last warm-up game before Blue Square Bet Premier kicks off at Luton Town next Saturday.

The Black Cats led through Adam Reed and Jordan Laidler inside six minutes.

The Heed hit back courtesy of Chris Bush and Ryan McGorrigan - who was released by Newcastle United during the summer - before Nathan Fisher put the hosts in front.

Sunderland's Billy Knott levelled but McGorrigan won it for Gateshead in the 90th minute.

"It was another good workout against a very young Sunderland side," said Bogie.

"I said to our lads in the dressing room after seeing their teamsheet, they're young but they're good. I knew it would be a good test for us.

"They were the better side in the first half, and passed it well.

"I was somewhat disappointed with our first half performance.

I thought we were sluggish in our approach play, we lost possession too cheaply at times and never pressed the ball.

"Second half we came out and had a lot more urgency, poise and possession, and looked a lot more dangerous and created a lot more chances.

"It was a game of two halves, a Jekyll and Hyde performance.

"But it's good to get a win under our belts going into the first game of the season."
