Gambrinus reports sales up for Corona.

For the fourth consecutive quarter, the Gambrinus Importing Co. reported first-quarter sales of its entire Modelo Brewing Group portfolio were up over 16 percent when compared with the corresponding period in 1991.

Corona Extra, the importer noted, led the way with a 14-percent growth compared to the same period last year. Additionally, Corona Light notched a nine percent increase, while sales of Coronita Extra, the seven-ounce Corona, grew 140 percent.

"Certainly, the cumulative effect of absorbing the Federal Excise Tax increase over a year ago has helped boost sales," explained Dan Cook, Gambrinus sales manager. "Retailers recognized that not having a price increase in the last year was almost a favor to them. In return, distributors and retailers have executed effective sales and promotion programs.

"We've earned a favorable position among our distributors because of our aggressive price strategy," Cook concluded.
