Gallard-Schlesinger Industries, Inc.: providing solutions that improve quality.

Gallard-Schlesinger Industries, Inc., (GSI), Plainview, NY, was co-founded in 1950 by Edward Gallard and Hans Schlesinger. They met through a mutual friend who thought Mr. Gallard and Mr. Schlesinger, having similar backgrounds selling chemicals both here in the U.S. and abroad, could make a partnership work. In April of 1950 they opened their doors under the name of Gallard-Schlesinger Chemical Corporation.

In 1985 Gallard-Schlesinger became a subsidiary of Chemische Fabrik Budenheim (CFB), the world's leading producer of specialty phosphates, and their exclusive U.S. representative. This partnership has given GSI a strong financial foundation in the industry and access to state-of-the-art research capabilities.

GSI supplies a full line of phosphates, minerals, amino acids, gluconates and brewers yeast, which are used in the nutrition and pharmaceutical, food and beverage, personal care and cosmetics and select industrial markets. In addition, the company also supplies manufacturers with a variety of research products.

Providing more information about the Nutraceutical segment of Gallard-Schlesinger Industries was Jerry Cohen, industry manager, Nutritional/Pharmaceutical. "With our experience in the industry, we help manufacturers to optimize functionality with value added products for dietary supplements and specialty nutritional products, including medical foods, weight management products, infant formulas and geriatric products."

Discussing the Budenheim phosphates the company supplies, Mr. Cohen said they are particularly renowned for their high level of quality and purity. "They are used by nutritional and pharmaceutical manufacturers as a source of calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium and other high demand nutrients."

Going into further detail about the company's product offerings, Mr. Cohen stated, "Gallard-Schlesinger Industries also supplies one of the widest selections of mineral compounds from Dr. Paul Lohmann (DPL)." DPL is known for its high quality and tailor-made products, which can also be customized to meet the specific needs of our customers."

The current demand for fortification in beverages, infant formula, adult nutritional supplements and energy drinks/bars has never been stronger and is driving business forward, according to Mr. Cohen. "To meet that demand, we will continue to offer the industry's most extensive line of phosphates, minerals, amino acids, gluconates and specialty mineral yeasts".

As for the latest developments, the company recently moved its headquarters to Plainview, NY. It has also added several new ingredients to its product portfolio, including a direct compression dimagnesium phosphate, an ultra micronized tricalcium phosphate, triturations, granulations and direct compressible minerals.

Moving ahead into the future, Mr. Cohen said, "Gallard-Schlesinger Industries will continue to grow to meet the demands of the educated consumer. With our ability to supply technical applications and research and development assistance from our principals, coupled with our global sourcing and purchasing, we will continue to be a value added supplier to our customers, enabling us to grow in step with them." --T.W.
