GUY CORNER - MATCHING DRESS SHOES WITH SUITS.

A guide to pairing the five most common suit colours A[degrees] navy, medium or midA[degrees]grey, brown and black A[degrees] with three different shoes showing which colours work with which leathers.

NAVY BLUE/MEDIUM AND LIGHT GREY SUITS:

Pair with: Black, brown or burgundy shoes

The leather colour mostly affects the formality and attitude of a navy suit. Black shoes are business dress, while brown are more relaxed, and burgundy give it the most playful, social feel. Medium grey suits are less formal than navy suits, and share a similar flexibility. With medium grey, black goes best.

BROWN SUITS:

Pair with: Brown or burgundy shoes. Do not pair with: Black shoes

Brown suits work with most brown shoes. But you want a visible contrA[degrees] ast between the colour of the shoe leather and the colour of the suit. If they're identical or almost identical, it looks off. It's better to have the shoe leather darker than the suit

BLACK SUITS:

Pair with: Black shoes. Do not pair with: Brown or, burgundy shoes

Black's not very flexible. Any other colour of shoe is going to look too casual with black.
