BEAUMONT, Texas, July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Gulf States Utilities Co.'s

(NYSE: GSU) board of directors today elected Donald M. Clements Jr. vice president of strategic projects, effective immediately. The board also elected Board Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Joseph L. Clements, who a month earlier was named general manager of strategic projects, has responsibility for coordinating GSU's proposed business combination with Entergy Corp. An attorney by training, Clements will continue to be involved in some litigation and a pending Texas fuel reconciliation case.
Clements joined Gulf States in 1978 and has worked in various positions as an attorney in the Legal Services Department. He received a bachelor of arts degree from Texas Christian University in 1971 and earned his doctor of jurisprudence degree from the University of Houston in 1974.
Donnelly, who became chief executive officer in January and chairman of the board on March 1, joined GSU in 1979 as senior vice president of finance. He became executive vice president and chief financial officer in 1986 and later that year was elected to the GSU board of directors.
A Pennsylvania native, Donnelly received his bachelor of science degree in political science from the University of Scranton and his doctor of jurisprudence degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
Gulf States and Entergy announced the companies' plans to combine on June 8, after both parties signed a definitive agreement on June 5.
