GULF ANNOUNCES PAY THICKNESS AT INDONESIAN WELL
CALGARY, Alberta, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Gulf Canada Resources

Ltd. (AMEX: GOU; Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver: GOU) today announced that further analysis of well logs and additional well data indicates that the net gas pay zone at Kuala Langsa-1 in Indonesia is approximately 215 metres (about 705 feet).
The indicated gas-bearing zone was encountered at 3,300 metres (about 10,825 feet), and the current well depth is 3,563 metres (about 11,690 feet). The gas-bearing zone is believed to be a reefal build-up in the Peutu Limestone with an average porosity of 14 percent. Preliminary data indicate the reservoir is over-pressured.
While Gulf said that drilling indications are encouraging, it once again cautioned that well log, side wall core, and wire line test data must be confirmed through a comprehensive testing program to determine hydrocarbon content, gas composition, and productivity.
Mechanical problems encountered while running casing to cover the productive zone have delayed operations. However, the company expects to drill deeper and complete drilling operations by the middle of May. This will be followed by an extensive production testing program. Additional drilling on the Kuala Langsa structure will be planned for the second half of 1992.
Kuala Langsa-1, which spudded on Jan. 2, 1992, is the second well in a six-well exploration program in Block A. The first well completed testing in February 1992. A third well, Kuala Muku-1, was spudded on March 11, 1992. Three more wells will be drilled later this year.
The Kuala Langsa-1 well is operated by Gulf's wholly owned subsidiary Asamera Oil (Indonesia) Ltd. in the Block A Production Sharing Contract area on the island of Sumatra. Aceh Gas & Oil Co. Inc., a Japanese corporation, was assigned a 50 percent interest in Block A for funding 100 percent of up to the first US$70 million being spent on an exploration and development program for the block.
