GULF ANNOUNCES BOARD CHANGES

 CALGARY, Alberta, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Gulf Canada Resources Limited today announced changes to the Company's Board of Directors.
 Mr. Robert J. Butler and Mr. Bernd K. Koken have resigned as directors. Mr. Butler served two terms on the Board, from 1972 to 1977, and from 1985 to the present. He was also Chairman of the Board from 1990 until June 1993. Mr. Koken served on the Board since 1985.
 Mr. G. William Miller has been appointed as a director of the company. Mr. Miller, a resident of Washington, D.C., has had a distinguished career in the private and public sectors, including serving as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Textron Inc. (1967-78), Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board (1978-79), Secretary of the Treasury (1979-81), and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Federated Dept. Stores, Inc. (1990-92).
 Gulf Canada Resources Limited is a major Canadian upstream oil and gas producer with operations in Canada, Indonesia and Russia.
