GTECH TO EXPAND MANUFACTURNG OPERATIONS IN RHODE ISLAND
 WEST GREENWICH, R.I., Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Appearing at a meeting

of the Coventry Town Council last night, representatives of GTECH Corporation announced that it intends to establish another manufacturing facility in Rhode Island. The company has leased the former Engineered Yarns facility at 372 Main St. in Coventry and has an option to purchase the facility in the future. The company also announced its intention to create approximately 100 to 150 new jobs over the next year at the Coventry site.
GTEC Vice President Craig Watson said, "GTECH's growth has created the need to expand our manufacturing operations. The former Engineered Yarns building in Coventry is an excellent facility for us. It is conveniently located near our West Greenwich headquarters and can be made operational in a relatively short period of time."
Watson continued, "although the Engineered Yarns facility fit our expansion needs, Coventry officials played an important role in convincing us that it was the right choice. Town Council President James Kiley and Town Manager Francis Frobel and his staff engaged in an aggressive marketing campaign. We were impressed with the high level of concern that the town administration has for economic development. It is clear to us that Coventry is a good place to do business."
The 140,000-square foot facility, which has been vacant since 1989, will provide space for expansion of the company's engineering, manufacturing and terminal assembly and testing functions. Operations are expected to commence in early 1992 after renovations are completed. GTECH also has manufacturing locations in Warwick and Slatersville, R.I.
GTECH Corporation designs, produces, implements, operates and services computerized on-line networks for governement-sponsored or licensed lotteries on five continents. Late last week GTECH announced it had been awarded the contract to provide and operate an on-line lottery network for the Louisiana Lottery Corporation. With this award, Louisiana becomes GTECH's 23rd lottery customer in the United States. GTECH has 31 other customers in Asia, Australia, Europe and South America.
GTECH Corporation employs approximately 700 people in Rhode Island and more than 2,000 worldwide.
