GTECH SELECTED TO OPERATE LOTTERY SYSTEM FOR CZECHOSLOVAKIA
WEST GREENWICH, R.I., Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- GTECH (NYSE: GTK) announced today that it has been selected to provide, operate and maintain, on a facilities management contract basis, an on-line lottery and sports game system for SAZKA, the government-authorized lottery in Czechoslovakia. The proposed system will include two data centers, one in Prague and one in Bratislava, and will utilize GTECH's proprietary radio Data-Link Communications System.
SAZKA currently has an off-line, manual lottery and plans a phased migration from the off-line games, which include a lotto game, to an on- line, computerized system.
A team of GTECH executives is traveling to Czechoslovakia to finalize formal contact arrangements. Start-up of the systems is anticipated in early 1993.
In commenting on the announcement, GTECH Chairman, Victor Markowicz said, "Following the Polish on-line lottery implementation, this award strengthens GTECH's position in the Eastern European community."
GTECH Corporation designs, produces, implements, operates and services computerized networks for government-sponsored or licensed lotteries on six continents. In addition, GTECH Corporation provides a wide variety of instant ticket support services. GTECH currently supplies and/or operates lottery systems for 25 U.S. customers and 32 jurisdictions outside of the United States.
GTECH Corporation employs approximately 1,000 people in Rhode Island and more than 2,900 worldwide.
